ChiMAS operate within the Medical Toxicology Information Services (MTIS) of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
MTIS, formerly Guy’s Poisons Unit was established in 1963 to provide 24 hour poisons information services.
We have been working on the safety of herbal medicines and reviewing suspected adverse reactions since 1991. ChiMAS started in 2001 and has recently been extended to a 24 hour operation.
Enquiries come through to a team of highly experienced information scientists adept at dealing with complex medical enquiries; providing concise, accurate and informed responses. Consultant physicians are also available to provide clinical advice on the treatment and management of patients.
Our experts on Chinese and herbal medicine are internationally recognised. They work at all levels from close collaboration with herbal practitioners and training health professionals to contributing to the work of the WHO and other regulatory bodies.
